What it Takes to Feed 10,000 People a Month

Feeding one person is an act of kindness.
Feeding 10,000 people every month—consistently, with dignity and nutrition—is a mission.
At the Nitish Sahay Foundation, our Food For All campaign was born out of this mission: to ensure that no stomach sleeps hungry and no life is wasted due to lack of food.

But what does it really take to feed 10,000 people every month?
It takes heart, hands, and hard work.

1. A Community-First Approach

Our first step is always to listen. We identify areas where hunger is the harshest—slums, labour colonies, flood-affected zones like Yamuna Khadar, and families displaced by crisis. We conduct on-ground surveys, meet with community leaders, and understand the unique needs of each location. Hunger isn’t just about food—it’s about access, dignity, and trust.

2. Planning and Procurement

Feeding 10,000 people means careful planning of nutrition, variety, and cost. We work with local farmers, suppliers, and kitchens to source fresh, quality ingredients. Our meals are curated to include a balance of protein, carbs, and vegetables—because the poor don’t just deserve food, they deserve nutritious food.

3. Cooking with Compassion

Behind every meal is a team of dedicated volunteers and cooks who begin their day before sunrise. Community kitchens operate on full capacity, and hygiene is non-negotiable. For many, this is more than a job—it’s a seva (selfless service). Each meal is prepared with the awareness that it might be the only food someone eats that day.

4. Distribution with Dignity

We don’t just give food—we serve it with respect. Volunteers ensure organized distribution, maintaining order and prioritizing children, women, and the elderly. We even offer “Meal Box” services to bedridden or disabled individuals. Wherever possible, we avoid plastic and promote sustainable packaging.

5. Sustainability & Support

Feeding 10,000 every month requires funding, partnerships, and faith. We are powered by donors, corporates, well-wishers, and volunteers who believe in our cause. Every rupee counts. Every act of support fuels this movement.

We constantly track impact, minimize wastage, and adapt to changing needs. When prices rise or disasters strike, we stretch resources—but never compromise on quality.

More Than a Meal

Feeding 10,000 people a month is not just about food—it’s about restoring hope. It’s about telling someone, “You matter. You are not forgotten.”

From a hot meal in the hands of a migrant worker to a child tasting fruit for the first time—it all begins with compassion.

At Nitish Sahay Foundation, we’ll keep serving. Because hunger is not a statistic—it’s a face. A story. A future worth saving.
