In many underserved communities, especially among women and girls, dreams often remain unstitched—tucked away beneath responsibilities, poverty, and lack of opportunity. At the Nitish Sahay Foundation, we believe that empowerment begins not just with education, but with economic independence.
That’s why our tailoring classes—under Project Anandi—have become powerful tools of transformation. A needle, a thread, and the right guidance can stitch together not just fabric, but futures.
Why Tailoring?
Tailoring is one of the most accessible and dignified skills for women in rural and semi-urban India. It doesn’t require a large investment, can be done from home, and offers flexible income-generating opportunities.
For many women, learning tailoring is the first step toward self-reliance. It gives them a way to contribute to their family income, regain confidence, and break free from dependency or abuse.
What We Do
1. Skill-Based Training
Our free tailoring classes teach everything from basic stitching to advanced dressmaking, embroidery, and machine handling. The training is certified and practical, focused on job-readiness and entrepreneurship.
2. Community-Based Centers
We run our tailoring centres within safe community spaces, often in slum clusters or villages. This makes it easier for women to attend without hesitation or travel issues.
3. Mentorship and Support
Our trainers are often local women who’ve been through the same journey. They don’t just teach skills—they become mentors and role models.
4. Tools and Machines
We provide free access to sewing machines and materials during the course. On completion, women are supported with guidance to purchase their own machines or start small tailoring businesses.
5. Market Linkage
We help trained women get orders from local boutiques, participate in exhibitions, or collaborate with self-help groups to start collective enterprises.
Real Stories, Real Impact
Meena Devi, a 35-year-old homemaker from Yamuna Khadar, had never earned a rupee on her own. After completing our six-month tailoring course, she now stitches school uniforms and earns enough to support her daughter’s education. Her words: “For the first time, I feel I am not just surviving, I’m contributing.”
More Than Just Sewing
Our tailoring classes are not just about stitching clothes. They are about stitching self-worth, courage, and dreams. They transform women from silent dependents into active changemakers within their families and communities.
At Nitish Sahay Foundation, we will continue to expand Project Anandi, empowering women one stitch at a time—because when a woman is empowered, an entire generation is uplifted.
